Accreditation & Affiliations

Initial accreditation of HLSCC was granted on June 25, 2015. Accreditation is on an eight-year cycle, with the exception of new institutions, which are on a five-year cycle. Annual submissions from member colleges and universities are continually reviewed, with a moderate review at the end of the initial four years, and a more comprehensive evaluation at the end of eight years.

The comprehensive review is done through a self-study process which the College completed in 2015 and included a visit by a team who reported to the Commission. HLSCC’s accreditation was reaffirmed in June 2022.

The College was established under the British Virgin Islands Community College Act of 1990 and is authorised by action of its Board of Governors, pursuant to Section 16, to confer such academic degrees and other qualifications as are usually conferred by similar institutions in those fields of education authorised by the Act, that is to say: arts, sciences, and general studies; business and management studies; computer studies; health sciences; marine studies; hospitality management; teacher education and educational administration; Virgin Islands studies; and in such other fields of education as the Minister may from time to time determine.
